It is, in the best sense, a thriller, a spiritual mystery

“Far more than a novel of psychological transformation... It is, in the best sense, a thriller, a spiritual mystery... breathtaking... Robinson rewards our faith that after all these years writers can still, as Pound said, ‘make it new.’ (The Washington Post)
Monkey Beach is the spiritual mystery I want to make into an amazing film - a film that creates and sustains suspense while taking us on a journey to the deeper meanings of our lives: life and death, family and self, reality and dream, sadness and joy. Like the novel, I too will ‘make it new’.
Monkey Beach, the novel, is fierce yet tender, lyrical yet honest – and yes, it mirrors my filmmaking. I feel a great responsibility to make this film sensitive to the integrity of Eden Robinson’s story and storytelling, yet with my unique cinematic vision. Monkey Beach, the film, will cross genres and push boundaries and reveal truths about us all.
